September Alexander
September Alexander learned guitar from his sister when he was ten years old. His dad helped him develop his technique and September started writing songs and melodies when he was 12 years old.
September went on to study fine arts at Ocean County College and animation at Philadelphia University, but now focuses his creative talents on performing his music in coffee houses and as a busker. September wrote his signature song, Alexandra, as a junior in college and released it as an extended play on his album of the same name in 2020. He is currently working on another album to be released soon.
September began creating music for Kari’s poetry after they both performed in It’s a Wonderful Artist’s Life, a 2019 Redmond arts group, Apex, show presented at SecondStory Repertory Theater.
Home Ground poetic conversation: “When I create music for one of Kari’s poems, I ask her to read it aloud. Then I ask her the mood of the poem and usually when she reads the poem a second time, I close my eyes and spontaneously a melody comes to me. The process feels very natural and our collaboration is very easy and intuitive.”
